Entryway Project Phase 1 – The tile

Always something going on at the kPlace! (I say that a lot).

Well if you haven’t gathered yet the lovely  Mrs. Kinney and I are DIYers. we bought a home that wasn’t in bad shape many years ago but not quite the motif we want. We started with the upstairs bathroom a couple years ago, then the home gym. Well now we are working on our entryway. Our budget is (supposed to be)  based on the our other crafty projects we sell, like benches and  signs and tables, I think you get the idea. BTW Those can be found at Tumbleweed.

Striping the linoleumSo here we are with Phase 1 of the closet remodel. The tile

Putting the heat to the glue!Of course we started with striping the linoleum on Friday afternoon (we got off work early). Man who puts this stuff on? What a beast it was. finally after about 3 hours and a good nights rest, we went to our favorite store Menards and got a huge scraper. Our son came home from school for the weekend and got to help in the fun. Providing some heat for glue scraping. that made things go a little bit faster.

We also had to do some modifications the the railing. Originally it attached to the floor and we didn’t want it to do that anymore, we wanted it on the step. I didn’t get any progress pictures of that but I cut out about a foot of rail and then re welded it together. turned out pretty well I think!

Low SpotsAfter lots of cleaning and scraping. I had to put down some mud to make the corners of the floor even with the middle. using a 2 X 4 i filled in the low spots then drug the board over the top to get it even. Lots of mud went into those holes… had to stop for the night to let the glue dry.

And the first Tile goes downOn Sunday we got a pretty OK start. Mer made us steak and eggs for breakfast to get us started., marked up the floor to get it ready for tile… then it was off to the races. We had good team work between us with the mud and placement of the tile.

The tile we used was called Kaden Reclaimed, that we got at Lowes. It was 4.99 per piece and each piece was 36″ X 6″ in size. be careful this stuff is heavy and in cracked pretty easy. this was a late night but we did get all the tile in before we went to be. took a nice hot shower, boy was I beat, hurting and little delirious but, we got it done. to bad we had to go to work on Monday :(.

Monday Grout Day!!!! we got er done!!!

At lunch time we came home and did a little cleaning on the tile. Scraped washed and vacuumed. as soon as we got home for the day we started on the grout. Once again getting our supplies from Menards, The grout we bought was TEC® AccuColor® Premium Sanded Grout in Summer Wheat color. We mixed it with Grout Boost® Grout Additive witch is a stain resistant all in one additive that you use instead of water.

We worked together to get the grout in, Mers first time grouting. I started, then Mer would take over at water change, we kept the grove going till the end! and it looks Fab!! So now she knows how to use the power tools, she knows how ti tile and lay wood flooring, I tell you pretty soon I will not be needed.

And the Tile is in!!

Here’s a bunch of pictures
